March 9, 2006 02:34 PM

Seeking another international Italia Cup win, the United States Tennis Association announced that Andrew Lake, Davie, FL, has been selected to be Playing Captain on the 2006 United States Men’s 35 International Tennis team.  The US will compete in this year’s Italia Cup competition in Durban, South Africa from April 17-April 22, 2006.  This prestigious cup is an international tennis team competition similar to Davis Cup for men 35 and older.  The International Tennis Federation (ITF) sponsors it annually.

This will be Lake’s first appearance on a USTA Tennis Cup Team.  In 2005 he played in ten national tournaments, winning seven titles and finishing second in the remaining three.  He will be sharing the spotlight with #1 ranked George Zink whom he recently defeated in straight sets.  As a 1992 graduate of Marist College in New York, Lake holds a BA in Communications and a BS in Criminal Justice.  Currently, he is the Director of Tennis at Hawks Landing in Florida.  He and his wife, Kristen, have three children.  Daughters, Tanner (11) and Evan (8), as well as son, Thomas (4), all follow in their father’s footsteps and enjoy the game of tennis.

Lake brings a wealth of successful tennis experience and versatility to this year’s Italia Cup Team as one of only four players chosen from the United States top 35-year old men senior players.  Other members of the team will be Ken Kuperstein, Palm Desert, CA; George Zink, Lititz, PA; and Hunter Gallaway, San Ramon, CA.
