April 10, 2006 12:26 PM

Seeking its twelfth International Austria Cup win since 1977, the United States Tennis Association announced that Joe Bouquin of Delray Beach has been selected to play on the 2006 United States Men’s Tennis team.

Competition this year will be in Durbin, South Africa beginning April 16.  This prestigious cup is an international tennis team competition similar to Davis Cup for men 55 years of age and older.  The International Tennis Federation (ITF) sponsors it annually.  The U.S. team last won the cup in 2004, defeating Netherlands.

This will be Bouquin’s first appearance playing Senior Davis Cup for the US.  He has one gold ball to his credit, having won the USTA’s Men’s 40 National Championships in 1994.  Currently Joe is a tennis professional, directing activities at Wee Burn Country Club in Connecticut from May through September.

Bouquin brings a wealth of experience to this year’s team as one of only four players chosen.  Other members of the team: Brian Cheney, Chandler, AZ; Tommy Connell, Katy, TX; and Bob Litwin, Glen Cove
