Van Nostrand duo among Floridians chosen for international competition

This year, nearly 1,000 of the world’s best senior players are expected to travel to Antalya, Turkey Oct. 23-28 to compete on international cup teams.  Many of these players will also stay to compete the following week in the ITF Senior Individual World Championships.

Mr. King and Mrs. Boots – the Van Nostrand couple – are among the Floridians chosen to represent the United States on 70 & over international cup teams in October.  King will represent the US in the Crawford Cup and Boots in the Althea Cup.

Also representing the US and FLORIDA is Betty Wachob of Panama City.  She has been selected to compete on the 2006 Alice Marble Cup team, an international competition for women 60 and older.
Betty has played on two Women's 50 teams, and she won the USTA National Grasscourt Doubles Championship – Women's 60 – in 2005.

Joseph Bachmann of Sarasota was chosen to captain the 2006 USA Britannia Cup team.  Bachmann won the 2006 National 65 Clay Court Singles and Doubles Championships. He also won singles titles in Category II tournaments in Naples and St. Petersburg. He is on the Adult Competitive Council for USTA Florida.
Bachmann has been selected to serve as the Captain of this year’s team. As a member of six previous teams he brings experience to this year’s squad.

of Boca Raton will also compete on the Britannia Cup team.

Bob Meyerdierks of St. Petersburg was chosen to compete on the Gardner Mulloy Cup team for Men 80 & over.  This will be Meyerdierks' first international team competition.  The United States won the event last year.  This year’s cup team is looking forward to capturing the cup title again for the United States.

Louis Russ of Boca Raton and Doris Lutz of Sarasota were chosen to play on the international Queens' Cup team – Women's 75 & over.
Russ is not new to international tennis play; she has quite an impressive past.  Russ competed in six previous Cup Team events around the world.  She has been ranked No. 1 internationally for the past three years, and she won the “Gold Slam” (winning the National Championship on all four surfaces) in 2004 in singles and doubles.  Russ was the Adult Female Player of the Year twice for the state of Florida, and she is ranked No. 1 in singles in the US Women’s 75 division.
Lutz was a member of the 2005 Queen’s Cup Team, and also a member of the 2006 Friendship Cup Team that won in Austria this summer.  Lutz is currently ranked No. 2 in the US Women's 75 division.
