The Florida section finished with an overall team showing of second place at the 2006 Men's Intersectional tournament in Jackson, MS, in September.

The USTA Southern section won the team competition with 62 points followed by Florida with 52.  Florida players won the 55s and 65s divisions and were finalists in the 35s and 75s.

In the 55s, Florida defeated Southern 3-2 in the final.  Joe Bouquin (Delray Beach) accounted for seven of Florida's 16 points in the division. Marc Mazo, Mark Rosenfeld and Simeon Goring contributed to the team that also beat Northern Cal 3-2 and put 5-0 beatings on Texas and Midwest.
In the 65s, Florida swept Texas and Midwest 5-0 before sliding past Southern 3-2 for the title.  Joe Bachmann, Fred Farzanegan, Rudy Hernando and Don Biedinger comprised the team that is now 32-2 in Intersectional competition in the last two years.

The 75s trio of captain Clem Hopp, Peter Crewe and Richard Morse went 7-2 versus Southern, Texas and Midwest for a runner-up finish to Texas.  Crewe and Morse were undefeated in doubles play, sweeping their matches without dropping a set.
The 35s squad of Rhett Rollyson, Mark Palus, Todd Schlorf and Todd Rubinstein put together a second place finish losing a tough, down-to-the-wire 3-2 decision to Southern.  Florida defeated Hawaii 3-2 in another highly competitive match.
Seven out of 17 sections were represented at the annual event at River Hills Club in Jackson, MS.  Intersectional Chair Lyn Abbot was pleased at the overall finalist result as the foundation has been put in place for a run at an overall team championship in 2007!
