The West team, led by Commissioner Clem Hopp, won its 4th consecutive Florida Cup at the Naples Bath Tennis Club, March 31-April 1, with a 30-20 win over the East.  Each team won five age divisions with the West winning 19 out of 20 points in the age groups 50's to 65's.  The East won 12 out of 15 matches in the 35's, 40's and 45's.
In the opening series of singles matches the West jumped out to 14-6 lead by building 2-0 leads in the 50's, 55's and 65's.  The doubles matches split at 5-5 giving the West a 19-11 cushion going into Sunday's reverse singles matches.  The West won the day 11-9 to register a Cup record 30 points led by Jeff Davis who went 3-0 on the weekend.  The last match of the competition was also the longest as Bill Tully rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 over Bob Meyerdierks in the final match of the 80's.
Naples Bath and Tennis hosted the Florida Cup matches for the fourth time and many thanks go to the volunteers, tournament director Bill Beverly and club host Craig Bouchard for the energy and resources that made the 2007 Florida Cup a tremendous success.
