For those Florida senior tennis players who haven’t qualified for the Florida Senior Games State Championships, or are just looking for a chance to warm-up before the state championships, there are still plenty of chances to compete this fall.

The Tampa Bay Senior Games tennis event is the first of eight Local Senior Games qualifying opportunities beginning on October 5.  The remaining local events continue through, Friday, November 16 in Sarasota.  See list below.

Florida Senior Games State Championships tennis will be held Tuesday, December 4 – Sunday, December 9 at Florida Gulf Coast University and Rutenburg Community Park in Ft. Myers.

Singles matches will be played Tuesday, December 4 and Wednesday, December 5, followed by doubles on Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7.  Mixed Doubles wraps up the competition on Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9.  All matches will start at 8 a.m. each day.

The top 5 finishers in each age group at Local Games Qualifying sites are eligible to register for the State Championships.  Participants that qualify for one Tennis event are eligible for all Tennis events.

Tennis entry fee is $20 for the first event and $3 for each additional event.  Entry fee includes a State Championships t-shirt and one ticket to the Celebration of Athletes.  All entries must be received by November 16, 2007 or register online by November 19, 2007 at www.flasports.com.  Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Event Director.

The 16th Annual Florida Senior Games State Championships will be held December 1-9 in Lee County and the City of Cape Coral.  Over 2,000 Florida Senior Athletes are expected to compete in 25 sports.  Two new sports, Bocce and Powerlifting, have been added to the State Championships roster in 2007.
