“Over 100” Doubles League a Success

September 2, 2008 02:28 PM

Global Community Tennis Association’s (GCT) first “Over 100” Doubles League was very successful as 18 senior participants, age 50 and over, competed for seven weeks at Safety Harbor Resort Spa & Tennis and the Southwest Largo Recreation Center.  With discounted fees to keep players active during the summer months, women and men of all age and skill level, were welcomed to the inaugural league.  The only requirement was that the doubles pair had a combined age of over 100!

GCT program director, Janet Stuart, organized the new format and said the doubles league included players from St. Petersburg, Seminole, Largo, Clearwater, Sand Key and Tampa.

“It was an overall positive experience that was shared by all players,” said Julie Panton, GCT president.  “GCT will learn from this new fun format and develop similar programs in the future.”

After seven weeks of competition, Liz Cameron, Fred Hesse, Bev Fisher and Julie Panton finished as the top four among the total of 18 participants.  Prizes for the winners were sponsored by Rally Sports.
