More than 300 children gathered on June 1, 2 and 3 at the Roger Scott Tennis Center for three days of tennis, including a tennis carnival.  This was a first-time opportunity for these children to experience the game.  The event was possible thanks to the Pensacola Sports Association’s (PSA) partnership with Pensacola Jr. Tennis, the Greater Pensacola Association Community Tennis Association and the City of Pensacola.

Wade Brown, Tennis Director at Roger Scott Tennis Center coordinated the volunteer support. Greater Pensacola Tennis Association volunteer Dan Kelliher organized volunteer support and coordinated the carnival activities for Friday, June 3. The children were entertained by hitting for prizes, eating cotton candy and ice cream and bouncing in a blown-up castle.  The Pensacola Sports Association obtained donations from sponsors and provided a T-shirt to each of the participants.

On June 15, 16 and 17, the PSA joined with the Gulf Breeze Tennis Association (GBTA) and the Shoreline Tennis Center in Gulf Breeze to sponsor a racquet round-up in South Santa Rosa County.  85 children participated in this first-ever racquet round-up in Gulf Breeze.  Tennis Director Jim Chandler at Shoreline Tennis Center coordinated volunteers while GBTA President Damon O’Donnell coordinated CTA support.  Rain put a damper on the Gulf Breeze Carnival, but volunteer commitment prevailed.  Area pros, high school tennis players, and volunteers from the local CTAs worked together to put on a successful event.

“Kids really enjoyed playing rallyball and learning tennis through games,” said Pensacola Sports Association Coordinator Michael Rhodes.  “This year marks the 27th year of the racquet round-up in Pensacola and surrounding areas!”
