, FL – BlazeSports Tampa Bay, the local chapter of BlazeSports America, has partnered with USTA Florida, Wheelchair Sports of Tampa Bay, the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department to stage the only organized wheelchair tennis program in the Tampa Bay area!

The 6-week BlazeSports Wheelchair Tennis program, which includes instruction and play coordinated by Wheelchair Sports of Tampa Bay instructors, meets from 9:30-11:00am at the City of Tampa Tennis Complex at Hillsborough Community College on Oct. 8, 15, 29 and Nov. 5, 12, 19.

The program is FREE and open to individuals with physical disabilities ages 7 thru adult, regardless of ethnicity or religion - PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. All wheelchair-bound persons in the Tampa Bay community are welcome. To learn more about or to register for the BlazeSports Wheelchair Tennis program, contact Andy Chasanoff, Sports Coordinator BlazeSports Tampa Bay; 813-892-0053; dsportshcprd@aol.com.

Andy Chasanoff is thrilled about this new opportunity for wheelchair players in the Tampa area:
"The social and educational components of this program are just as important as, if not more than, the competitive part,” Chasanoff said.  “We focus on participants’ abilities rather than their disabilities, which is quite unique!”

USTA Florida provided a Community Tennis Grant and Region 3 Community Coordinator assistance. The grant was used to purchase racquets, transition balls, and teaching aids.  Wheelchair Tennis Curriculum was provided by the United States Tennis Association.

Through this program, USTA Florida Community Coordinator Jeff Davis hopes to present tennis as a lifelong sport for everyone:
“USTA Florida is proud to partner in this BlazeSports Tampa Bay program,” Davis said.  “We are excited to help bring this wheelchair tennis program to USTA Florida Region 3 as we continue to promote and develop tennis in Florida.”

Through community advertising, media attention, and word of mouth, BlazeSports hopes to gain local sponsorship and support for future wheelchair programs and events.
