The threats of Hurricane Wilma did not deter 87 children, 26 team captains and their enthusiastic parents from participating in the 2005 Ralleyball Jamboree in Orlando on Saturday, October 22 at the Orlando Fitness and Racquet Club.

With a focus on tennis and fun, this one-day regional event featured beginning tennis players from Hernando, Indian River and Orange counties.  Ralleyball, a format of team tennis play, was the featured activity, which also included “Hit for Prizes” for USTA Florida goodies.

Coaches, volunteers and parents assisted while cheering on seven 8 & under and six 12 & under teams which included two NJTL programs competing in a round-robin format on five courts.  Three rounds were completed before players devoured more than 20 pizzas!

At the awards ceremony, all players received a USA Team Tennis medal and two sportsmanship award winners were announced: Natalie Diaz and Shyarla McNair, (both pictured below.)

Afterwards players cooled off in the pool and partied to the D.J.’s music.  USTA Florida Community Coordinators Shelly Licorish and Trina Singian presented the event.

“Congratulations to all the teams,” Licorish said.  “And kudos to all the team captains and parents that supported all the youth.  Everyone had an excellent time!”
