Sarasota RCW provides new ideas for tennis programs

February 8, 2006 09:01 AM

Tennis was the focus at a Recreational Coach Workshop sponsored by KT Florida (a region 5 USTA Florida community tennis association) at the Bath and Racquet Club in Sarasota Jan. 28.

Participants came from all over the U.S.!  There was one high school coach from Jacksonville, a coach from London, KY, and one flew in from Mystic, CT!

KT Florida director Lisa White worked with president Barb Kaiser to plan the workshop.  Kaiser made some new friends at the Saturday workshop.

“The new high school coach who flew in from Connecticut and I ended up playing tennis together on Sunday,” Kaiser said.  “I found a new friend.  Actually, 15 new friends!  A great bunch of people.”

USTA/USPTA national trainer Glen Howe led the workshop, and once again he captured participants’ full attention.  There are more workshops planned for Sarasota and the surrounding community.  For more information contact Barbara Kaiser with KT Florida: 941-927-3124.

Kaiser is pleased with how highly involved Manatee County has been with training its coaches and offering tennis to its students.

Samoset Elementary School PE Coach and patrol sponsor Carol Barnett has already used some of the tennis tactics she learned at the workshop.

“I have learned many new ways to keep tennis active and fun for my students from the USTA workshop,” Barnett said.  “I actually used some new tricks today with my after school group, and it worked great!”
