Saturday morning of tennis for Volusia County youth

February 8, 2006 11:53 AM

More than 80 Volusia County youth came out to the Airport Road Park in Port Orange Jan. 28 for a morning filled with tennis activities!  USTA Florida’s Bobby Curtis Tennis on the Move (presented by the Andy Roddick Foundation,) hosted the free community event with the City of Port Orange.

Tennis, specifically Ralleyball, was the focus of the morning activities.  The USTA Florida Ralleyball program is a Junior Team Tennis beginner format of play geared for children six to 12 years old.

A new junior benefit introduced by USTA Florida this year is that any registered Ralleyball player who becomes a USTA member receives a FREE Wilson racquet or a USTA backpack and all the USTA membership benefits!

Volusia County Ralleyball coordinator Rita Gladstone was pleased with the turnout on Saturday, and she hopes to get more area youth involved in tennis programs.

“Thanks to local teaching pros and parent volunteers, it was a great morning on the courts for the kids,” Gladstone said.  “A great time was had by all!”
