February 16, 2006 10:04 AM

Local youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 have the opportunity to participate in the U.S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition presented by Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes (Jr. Olympic Skills) on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 10 a.m. at South Olive Park Tennis Center in West Palm Beach.

This FREE grassroots youth participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four athletic events-basketball, soccer, tennis and track & field.  The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sports while promoting good sportsmanship.

The USTA Rapid Rally (Tennis) portion of the Jr. Olympic Skills will by hosted by East Coast Tennis Foundation, Inc.  Youth will be challenged to serve a low-compression tennis ball and to continue to hit the ball against a wall and above the net line as many times as possible in a 30-second time period, (Rapid Rally).

Participants may register the day of the event. Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate for registration. Age eligibility is as of Aug. 31, 2006.

Champions from this Local Qualifying Event will advance to one of the Regional Competitions across the country in hopes of advancing to the National Finals!
