Nearly 100 people including more than 35 children of all ages and ability levels, children with disabilities and able-bodied, gathered side-by-side at Nova Community Park in Ormond Beach for a fun day of tennis activities on Saturday, April 8.

The Bobby Curtis Tennis on the Move set up stations with various tennis games and drilling areas.  The day was hot and steamy, but the kids brought enough energy to pack their own heat, hitting for prizes, jumping around the obstacle course and acing their buddies on the court.

Area League Coordinator Rita Gladstone said the kids had a great time despite the hot air and strong wind.

“This is just the beginning of Ralleyball in the Ormond Beach area,” Rita said.  “We hope it will continue to grow and eventually hope that every local child has access to this great game.”

Registration is underway for the Ormond Beach Ralleyball program which begins Saturday, April 22.  The program is open to kindergarten through fifth graders and is designed for beginner and advanced beginner players.  Contact Rita for more information: agwins@aol.com; (386) 299-6551.

USTA Florida Director of Community Development Linda Curtis helped with the Saturday afternoon event.

“It is always so great to see children with disabilities playing alongside able-bodied kids!” Curtis said.
