The Greater Miami Tennis Foundation’s most recent events, Jim Berry Tennis Classic presented by Bill Ussery Motors and GMTF Night with the Stars presented by Northern Trust events were held Saturday, April 22.

The Jim Berry Tennis Classic featured the Foldes Financial Management Tennis Pro-Am, a tennis exhibition and luncheon at the Royal Palm Tennis Club.

The Foldes Financial Management Tennis Pro-Am had 80 amateur and professional participants competing in three divisions.  The results were:

Wimbledon Division
Tim Battle and Pedro Leon defeated Hartmut Junghahn and Mike Marrou 6-4

French Open Division
Leslee Gross and Liz Levinson-Petrine defeated Leslie Saiontz and Julie Steven 6-3

U.S. Open Division
Dan Mulligan and Rafael DeMesa defeated Mike Khan and Mike Brunnberg 6-4

The tennis exhibition was free to the public and featured a junior match with youth from Jim Berry’s ACES program, a celebrity match and two professional matches.  The matches were:

Rachel Pye and Louis Aspuir  vs. Monika Chow and Greg Owens
Jim Berry and Tom Gullikson vs. Eric Brandon and Rennie Stennett
Luke Jensen and Julia Cohen vs. Tom Gullikson and Lauren Albanese
Cliff Drysdale and Luke Jensen vs. Tom Gullikson and Jay Berger

That evening the celebrities from the tennis exhibition, plus tennis star Jennifer Capriati and actor John O’Hurley came together at the home of Amy and Guy Mitchell in the exclusive Tahiti Beach community for GMTF Night with the Stars presented by Northern Trust.  The evening included a cocktail reception, dinner, casino games, music, dancing and live auction with a special performance by O'Hurley.

A major highlight of the fun-filled evening was bidding on the exciting auction items with Celebrity Auctioneer John O’Hurley, who just finished starring in Chicago on Broadway.  O’Hurley wowed the crowed by bringing in great bids for many live auction items, including The US Open package for $6,000.  The lucky bidder purchased an exciting trip that includes two invitations to the President’s Box for one session of the U.S. Open, two tickets to two other sessions of the 2006 U.S. Open, two round-trip tickets to New York on JetBlue Airways, and two nights in The Cornell Club in downtown Manhattan.

Another lucky winner purchased The Oprah Winfrey Show package which included VIP seating at a taping of Oprah Winfrey’s famous television show, two round-trip airline tickets on American Airline donated by Denise Capriati and a two-night stay at the Hilton in downtown Chicago.

O’Hurley decided to grab the wonderful women’s and men’s blue dial RADO Sintra watches donated by sponsor RADO Swiss Watches for $2,000.

Together the Jim Berry Tennis Classic presented by Bill Ussery Motors and GMTF Night with the Stars presented by Northern Trust raised funds and awareness for the Greater Miami Tennis Foundation.  The Greater Miami Tennis Foundation offers Tennis With a Purpose™.  Its mission is to serve youth, adults and families in the community, many of whom are at-risk, with quality programs that include fitness, nutrition and education.  For more information on the Greater Miami Tennis Foundation visit www.gmtf.org.
