Gainesville Jr. Team Tennis back in action

May 12, 2006 12:31 PM

USTA Florida Gainesville Area Community Tennis Association (GACTA) volunteers assisted their president Christine Shurtleff and USTA Florida Community Coordinator Matt Graham in a Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) start-up event May 6 at the 300 Club to kick off the Gainesville summer tennis program.

There were snacks and refreshments for the kids as they rotated from one tennis game to the next.  Give-aways were provided by USTA Florida, and tennis program information was provided.  Matt is excited to see this Gainesville program get going again.

"There was a great turnout with a lot of enthusiasm for this program,” he said.  “It was a great way to spark new interest and provide information for the parents and kids.  It should be a lot of fun."

"For years we have been wanting to initiate a JTT program in the Gainesville area,” Christine said.  “Thanks to USTA Florida and Matt as our Community Coordinator, a program is in the works and becoming a reality!"

The enthusiasm for this partnership is paralleled:  “It’s great working with volunteers and people like Christine,” Matt said.  “They have a great passion to really develop tennis in our Gainesville community.”
