Tennis for tiny tots to seniors and everyone in between!

June 9, 2006 02:56 PM

More than 200 tennis lovers crowded the courts at Sans Souci Tennis Center in North Miami for a USTA Block Party on May 21.  Children and adults were entertained with games such as champion of the court, beat the pro, test your serve, hit for prizes, Cardio Tennis, Ralleyball for tiny tots and king of the court.

USTA Miami-Dade JTT official sponsor Papa John’s provided pizza, and volunteer Veronica Dubins made homemade pasta!  Prizes were provided by USTA Florida region 8-South.

The North Miami Director of Parks & Recreation Terry Lytle, Recreation Supervisor Ernie Ramos, and Karen Deleon from the Parks and Recreation Commission enjoyed the afternoon tennis action.

USTA Florida community coordinator Cathy Nordlund was excited to see the variety in age groups at the party.

“It was great to see so many people come out – from tiny tots to seniors – they all enjoyed a fun day of tennis,” Cathy said.  “One attendee said she hadn’t played tennis in 10 years but coming out made her miss it!  She looks forward to taking it back up again.”

USTA Florida regional director Rick Pardon helped on the court where the tiny tots were playing.

“It’s so great to see such little tikes hitting tennis balls,” Pardon said.  “Get them hooked on the game early, and they can play for the rest of their lives!”

The following tennis facilities provided entertaining court activities:

Michael-Ann Russell JCC
Sans Souci Tennis Center
Quayside Tennis
Miami Shores Country Club Tennis Complex
Miami Shores Community Center
Pepper Park Tennis Park
Arthur Snyder Tennis Center- Monastery
