Bob Nelson’s Clubtennis summer camps in Cape Coral

July 12, 2006 03:07 PM

The USTA Florida grant money presented to Bob Nelson of Cape Coral has been well-spent.  Bob’s online junior tennis academy, Clubtennis, provided summer tennis programs, and local Lee County kids had a blast!

Rain or shine, camps were held at Mariner High School until July 28.  Half-day camps were offered in the mornings (9 a.m. to 1 p.m) and evenings (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), and full-day camps were offered on the same days, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kids were guaranteed non-stop action and entertainment!  For rainy days and downtime, Coach Bob used his portable classroom that is well equipped with computers, video games, desks, a mini ping-pong table for competition and eye-hand coordination, and lots of other competitive games!

USTA Florida community coordinator Susie Bessire went to check out the Clubtennis camp one afternoon.

“Coach Bob was making icy drinks when I showed up,” Bessire said.  “The kids were loving it!”

Bessire was especially fond of one of the children who showed up in his Spiderman mask and played tennis wearing it!

Bob hopes that many of the kids who attended his summer camp continue with his Clubtennis programs as the school year begins, such as his after-school program.  Bob also offers group and private lessons throughout the year at Mariner High School.
