The St. Petersburg Tennis Center will host a USTA Florida Recreational Coach Workshop Saturday, Aug. 19, from 8:30a.m.-3:00p.m.  This is one of more than 180 events taking place across the nation this year as part of a national USTA initiative.

Recreational Coach Workshops (RCWs) are interactive, on-court training programs designed for tennis teachers and coaches working with players at the recreational level.  Workshops are six hours, and they are conducted by a certified tennis professional specifically trained for the RCW Program.

The goal of the program is to provide all teachers, coaches, and those interested with recreational coaching techniques, instruction, fresh and innovative ideas and easy-to-follow resources.

“We understand the importance of those teachers and coaches who are working with players at the recreational level,” said Kirk Anderson, Director Recreational Coaches and Programming, USTA.  “These people play a significant role in determining if a player continues to play tennis.  We want to give the workshop participants exciting ways to introduce the sport and fun activities to keep kids and adults playing.”

Every workshop participant will receive lesson plans and sample equipment in an effort to make the learning process fun and easy.  The cost to attend the workshop is $25 ($35 after August 7).  Cost includes training materials, lunch and an interactive, on-court training taught by a certified USTA National Trainer of Recreational Coaches.
