Moore Park after-school program hits the courts (and books)

August 28, 2006 12:56 PM

The Greater Miami Tennis Foundation, with the help of The Children's Trust, is providing an after-school program for Miami’s urban youth at the Ashe-Buchholz Tennis Center at Moore Park this school year.

The program offers a healthy, productive alternative to watching TV or hanging out on inner-city streets.  It will run Monday through Friday 3-6:45 p.m., (beginning at 2:30 on Wednesdays).

Children seven to 18 can try their hand at all levels of tennis instruction and other sports, arts and crafts and reading instruction. Certified tutors are available to help with homework and SAT preparation. High school students can train for college level tennis competition. Nutrition, life skills and computer workshops round out the program.

During public school breaks and teacher workdays, mini-camps are held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays at the tennis center. The program is closed on legal holidays.

For information about how you can sign up your child, contact GMTF program director Marine Carrington: (305) 365-2311.
