USTA Florida school member loses bus, needs assistance

September 8, 2006 12:59 PM

USTA Florida School Member Kids Community College Charter School in Riverview lost its solitary method of transportation for students' travel to a local park for PE and after school programs.

During Labor Day weekend, the $50,000 bus was destroyed by arson.  The charter school's president Timothy Kilpatrick suspects it was the act of teenagers or a gang.

The purchase of the bus, just last month, was made possible by parents' fund-raising efforts.  School affiliates are devastated; they plan to start raising funds all over again for a new bus.

This K-2 school is currently in the process of receiving a USTA grant for an after school tennis program – with no way to get to the courts.  The USTA Florida School Tennis Program is supporting the schools' efforts to replace the bus as soon as possible.

In the meantime, USTA Florida has provided the school with mini-nets, racquets and balls so the children can play in the school parking lot.

For information about how YOU can assist in the school's efforts to raise funds for a new bus, contact Jeff Baker at Kids' Community College: phone (813) 671-1440, fax (813) 671-1245.
