The Miami Dream Team, coached by Noel Cubela, has brought home the second National Jr. Team Tennis Championship by winning the 18 Advanced division at the national tournament in San Diego Oct. 27-30.  The USTA Florida section team defeated the USTA Southern section team of Charlotte, NC, in the finals 35-20.  This victory comes one week after USTA Florida won the National Championship in the 18 Intermediate division!

The 18 & Under Miami Dream Team, as many have over time, draws inspiration from tennis legend Bobby Curtis, a long-time fixture in the Florida tennis scene.

“Bobby Curtis is a legend,” team coach Noel Cubela said.  “His attitude and discipline help keep kids happy in every tournament.  We respect him very much.”

Among many other things, Curtis is known for once teaching Arthur Ashe and most recently for his program Bobby Curtis Tennis On The Move presented by the Andy Roddick Foundation.  Tennis On the Move is an interactive, traveling tennis carnival that provides a small dose of tennis to a community festival, jamboree or grand opening in an effort to introduce tennis to non-players in a creatively fun method.

Way to go Miami Dream Team (18 Advanced) and Treasure Bay (18 Intermediate) for making 2006 a banner year for USTA Florida's Jr. Team Tennis!
