The fall USTA Florida Ralleyball season came to a close this month, and Lee County had a local season-ending celebration – a tournament and party – on Sunday, Nov. 5, at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.

Lee County Community Tennis Association (CTA) program director Mike Welter organized the afternoon event and CTA park instructors and parents helped with on-court activities.

"What a superb day!" Welter said.  "The tennis was the best I've seen, the parents were wonderful and the smiles on those kids were priceless.  I'd say the day was a great success."

All 120 children in attendance received either a new Wilson racquet or a backpack for signing up for the six-week Ralleyball program.  This special offer was made possible through a partnership between Wilson Sporting Goods, USTA Florida and the Lee County CTA.

The kids came out to enjoy fun, competitive tennis.  Susie Bessire watched the children proudly sport their Wilson racquets, Lee County CTA T-shirts and big smiles throughout the afternoon.

"It was great to see not only the children having fun but their parents as well," Bessire said.  "The enthusiasm and support from the sidelines truly made this a special afternoon for junior tennis in Lee County."

Prizes were supplied by USTA Florida, and region seven's Bob Nelson provided funds.
