Sun Coast Holiday Benefit in Fort Myers

December 27, 2006 02:01 PM

The third annual "Sun Coast-A-Tennis" (SCAT) Holiday Benefit was held at Park Meadow Tennis Center in Fort Myers Wednesday, Dec. 6.  Participants played a round robin tennis match and enjoyed a luncheon, and more than 55 area league players donated gifts to the Children's Home Society through the YMCA Giving Tree.

Developed by Diane Geater, former director of tennis for Fiddlesticks, the event was a holiday success!  Diane had always done a benefit at Fiddlesticks and wanted to continue holiday giving through SCAT.

The gift giving was coordinated by Karen Kovaz through the YMCA.  Along with a specific gift for a child, a raffle was held which raised an additional $500 for the YMCA Giving Tree.

The SCAT League, which began in 1982, has nearly 100 members in Lee and Collier counties.  Members range in age from mid-30s to 70s, and tennis abilities from 4.0 to 5.0.

USTA Florida community coordinator and SCAT member Susie Bessire attended and enjoyed the program.

"It was great to see everyone enjoying the fun tennis and coming together for such a good cause," she said.  "As always, Diane did a fabulous job organizing the event and running the round robin!"
