Tennis Shout Out

April 12, 2007 09:18 AM

The tennis community of Shipwatch Tennis Club would like to give a shout out to Drew Wager, head tennis professional and manager at Shipwatch.  Drew manages all the tennis facilities at the club, plans social activities for players, schedules tennis exhibitions, which he participates in himself, and dedicates his time and energy to the students he teaches.  He is a patient coach with a deep understanding of the game, which enables him to reach out and help players at any level.

Drew started playing tennis at Shipwatch Tennis Club when he was eight years old.  At nine, Drew participated in his first tournament and it wasn’t long until he qualified for his first National tournament in the Boys’ 14 and under division.  Tennis highlights include a semi-final run in the prestigious Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships (boys’ 16 division); he was No. 1 in the boys’ 18 and under USTA rankings; and he participated competitively in Satellite tournaments, working his way towards turning pro.  At 23, Drew turned his sights to coaching, and has since coached many of the top ranked players in Florida.

In 2000, he became the head tennis professional at Shipwatch Tennis Club.  Drew is very talented and is very hands-on with all people and activities at the tennis center.  His animated personality directly translates into his personal life with his wife Stephanie and two children, Madison and Joshua.

Drew, thanks for being so passionate about the game we all love.  Your hard work ethic, sincere care and concern for your players and enthusiastic attitude have truly affected the tennis community of Shipwatch.
