Looney Dunes Camp

August 9, 2007 02:33 PM

The name might insinuate a wacky, animated and “loony” event, but in reality, the Looney Dunes Camp at Hammock Dunes Country Club in Palm Coast, Fla. was more of an adventure for 93 children.  The adventure embarked on Wednesday, August 1 and ended on Friday, August 3.   Rich Walker of Hammock Dunes hosted the camp which emphasized participation in multiple sports.  Kids age 4-15 took a walk into their wild side with tennis, explored the seven seas by swimming, traveled across the country to play croquet and practiced their golf swing like Tiger Woods.  Ok, maybe it wasn’t that exotic, but kids can dream can’t they?

Tennis equipment was provided by USTA Florida through Tennis on the Move and both USTA Florida and Flagler Beach Friends of Tennis were on hand to assist with tennis games and activities.  In addition to fun and games, all participants received a goody bag, hat and t-shirt.

Event co-chair Brenda Walker was thrilled with the three-day turnout, and noted that the camp is growing every year.  USTA Florida East Region 4 Community Coordinator,  Molly Zimmer, agreed.

“It was so exciting to see all the children come out and play tennis,” said Molly.  “You could feel their passion and energy all over the courts!”
