On Saturday November 17, 2007 Senior Tennis of Volusia kicked off the season for community tennis at Bayside Lakes in Palm Bay, Florida.   A Brevard County development of almost 3,000 homes at build-out, Bayside Lakes community tennis began in March 2007 with a Tennis Expo featuring a USTA WBTT event for the 50 plus population and a Rally Ball for the juniors.

The kick-off started at 9:00 AM with registration and ended at 11:30 AM.  Over twenty (20) adults and 10 juniors participated in the event which included round robin rotational doubles for the adults and an abbreviated QuickStart™ for the juniors.  Julie Panton, USTA FL Diversity Council member, assisted with the juniors on court followed by Imeh Joshua.  Ten adults signed up for the Developmental Coaching and Doubles Clinic and ten juniors for the coaching clinics.

The official tennis season which runs from November to April will have a calendar of events and activities.  For the adults, the calendar will include clinics, socials, round-robin match play, intra-community tournaments (doubles and singles by levels).  The season will end with an Awards and Recognition luncheon in April 2008.  Activities for the juniors, ages 6-17, will include “Quick Start™”, introduction to competition, clinics, and fitness instruction.  Imeh Joshua, USTA professional from Palm Bay will conduct the junior sessions.
