Middle School Tennis Makes a Comeback

Students from seven middle schools just wrapped up a six-week program in which they learned traditional as well as Rally Ball tennis on Saturdays as part of the county's middle school sports program. The program was actually a partnership between many entities such as the Polk County School Board, the U.S. Tennis Association, the USTA Florida Schools Program, the Polk County Tennis Association as well as teachers and parents.

Students from Lakeland Highlands, Berkley, Stambaugh and McLaughlin middle schools, as well as Davenport School of the Arts, Daniel Jenkins Academy and Lake Alfred Academy, played on Saturdays at either the Auburndale City Courts or the Beerman Family Tennis Center in Lakeland. They got plenty of encouragement from pros Andy Durham and Dave Beerman.
