Two days of sunshine greeted almost 90 players from 5 different schools at the first USTA Florida’s College Championship Series event for 08/09, "The Capital Challenge," hosted by Florida State University at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.  Teams from FSU, USF, UCF, UF and FIU came to compete. After a morning full of round robin play, 29 men’s teams competed in the main draw.   In the finals, the UCF team of Louis Duco and Jimmy Roche, defeated FSU's Zane Moss and Michael Kopelman 7-5, 6-2.  Consolation winners, Robert Parks and Evan Gursky of FSU beat teammates Andrew Reynolds and Sean Samich in a third set tie-breaker.
In the women’s draw, 15 teams competed for the title of doubles champion. In the end, the USF team of Inna Chepurnaya and Lisa Domaradzki defeated UF's Brooke Allen and Lauren Reese. In the consolation finals, FSU's Stephanie Barriero and Agustina Colombia defeated UCF's Caila Carter and Michelle Terescenko.

Allison Hess, FSU’s tournament director said, “It was perfect tennis weather and everyone had a great time.”

Jodi Manning, USTA Florida's Tennis on Campus Coordinator added, “Tennis on Campus could not run as well as it does without our wonderful club members.  FSU club member Allison Hess did a great job coordinating our inaugural event for the 08/09 school year.”  Remaining USTA Florida CCS events include the UF’s Gator Bowl, Oct. 18-19, UCF’s Knightro Cup, Nov. 15-16, UM’s Ibis Open, Feb. 7-8 and USF’s Bull Run, March 28-29.  For more information about Tennis on Campus or series events, contact Jodi Manning at manning@florida.usta.com.
