QuickStart Tennis Rolls into Brevard County

Brevard County’s First After-School Program
Featuring QuickStart Tennis

On October 20, Senior Tennis of Volusia, in partnership with Odyssey Charter School, rolled out the first after-school program featuring QuickStart Tennis for students age 5-14 in Brevard County.  The unique aspect about this school is that they do not have a tennis court or a gymnasium.  The portable QuickStart court is set-up on the outdoor basketball court.  The program is fully supported by the school’s administration and is now part of the standard after-school offering.

There will be three, 8-week sessions during the academic year and one during the summer.  Each week consists of two classes.  Assisting with the program are three PE teachers and the Enrichment Coordinator who completed the USTA Recreational QuickStart Training workshop held in Bayside Lakes early October.

Fourteen students participated in the first class.  The students commented on how much fun they were having with tennis for the first time and that they wanted to continue.  It is expected that the class will grow as more parents and students become aware of the program.

Senior Tennis of Volusia, along with the school, will be promoting the program to the community during the “Meet Your Neighbor” exhibit sponsored by the Bayside Lakes Merchants Association on Saturday, October 25.

The immediate goal of the program is to develop a team from the school that participates in USTA Jr. Team Tennis, featuring the QuickStart Tennis format of play.
