Over 40 USTA Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) Area League Coordinators (ALC) and USTA Florida’s Community Tennis staff gathered in Daytona Beach for a workshop to discuss and be educated on what’s new in 2009 for the USTA JTT program.  Andy McFarland, Associate Executive Director of USTA Florida, began the workshop with a presentation on Franklin Covey’s “Closing the Execution Gap” and relating it to the future structure of USTA Florida’s Jr. Team Tennis  program.  This was followed by small group discussions on future relations and visions between USTA Florida’s Tennis Program Coordinators and the ALC representing the TPC’s area of responsibility.

Saturday finished with an ALC appreciation dinner followed by a very entertaining ALC team tennis challenge, organized by ALC and Rec Council member Rita Gladstone.  The “Smackers” (Meghan, Katie, Sharon, Noel and Gerri) took top honors by earning 80 points, and the finalists “Always Loving Competitors” (Albert, Louise, Linda, Jody, Patty) earned 71 points.  It was a great ending to a busy day!

Sunday morning welcomed Jerry Thorner from Active.com. He provided training on the new 2009 national uniform program and covered other features of importance for the TennisLink Registration system.  The workshop concluded with Jodi Manning reviewing the 2009 JTT Program Manual along with covering grant opportunities, QuickStart membership incentives and ALC stipend money.

“USTA Florida really appreciates our ALC’s taking the time to attend the workshop”, stated Manning, USTA Jr. Team Tennis Coordinator for USTA Florida and director of the ALC Workshop. “Information sharing, brainstorming and just being able to socialize with each other is so vital to recharge their efforts to help promote and grow the USTA Jr. Team Tennis program.   I felt the workshop went very well and I’m optimistic that the ALC’s are on board and ready to provide another year of USTA Jr. Team Tennis”.
