Eleventh Annual Carnival on the Mile - Juega Ahora!

March 27, 2009 04:49 PM

It was nothing short of pure entertainment for thousands and thousands of people who attended the Eleventh Annual Carnival on the Mile in Coral Gables, March 6-8, 2009. Over 11 city blocks of Coral Gables’ most renowned street, Miracle Mile, welcomed both young and old to a FREE family day full of jazz, art, fine foods and fun – all with a Latin flare!

USTA Florida was one of the many exhibitors involved in the weekend festivities, which welcomed over 150,000 to the event. The weekend offered USTA Florida an opportunity to promote tennis programs in North Gold Coast and expand its outreach to the Hispanic and Latin population.

Featured at this year’s event was QuickStart Tennis, a new way to play for kids 10 and under. With support from the USTA Florida Diversity Committee, over 250 people signed up to receive further information about QuickStart Leagues in the area. For simply trying their hand at tennis, hundreds received free tennis gifts and thousands stopped by the tent to see what was going on.

On March 21, a QuickStart Tennis Open House took place at Tamiami Tennis Center as a follow-up to Carnival on the Mile. Individuals played the new exciting format and were informed about the upcoming Jr. Team Tennis season.

Cathy Nordlund, Tennis Program Coordinator for South Gold Coast said over 100 people attended and teams are already being formed for the May 1 kick-off of QuickStart Tennis.
