The great spirit of junior competitive tennis was exemplified during this year’s Team Florida Challenge at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center from July 12 through July 15th. Andy Gladstone of USA Tennis Florida commented “The team concept is incredible! It promotes camaraderie, team support and most important, fun. I was so happy to see kids cheering others on, totally different than your typical junior tennis tournament.”

The Team Florida Challenge hosts 20 boys and 20 girls with four USA Tennis Florida Coaches. The coaching really helps kids relax and gives the coaches a real chance to coach. Long time junior coach Matt Krajewski commented “ this is one of my favorite tennis events, the coaches can really get inside the player’s head during the match. I just love helping the kids.”

Not only was there great excitement on the court, but Wednesday’s dance was a highlight for all. With a superb DJ from Lawrence of Florida, junior players, parents and coaches showed that the tennis court is not the only place where our players excel. The Wednesday night dance was a sight to see, with everyone rocking the night away.

Our future tennis stars dancing the night away.

A final highlight was Anson McCook and Bridgette Gale winning the Sportsmanship award. Both players proved their fair play and team spirit all week.

Special thanks go to the superb coaches of John Danise, Mike Kypriss, Matt Krajewski and Angel Rodriguez.
