Floridian Amy Simidian Wins Girls’ 14 National Championships

Dallas, TX—Number two seed Amy Simidian of Naples won the 35th annual Maureen Connolly Brinker (MCB) Girls’ 14 National Championships at T-Bar-M Racquet Club in Dallas, TX March 24-26.  Amy defeated number one seed Lilly Kimbell of Texas 6-1,6-3.

Brianda Navarro (San Antonio, TX) defeated Casey Johnson (Plano,TX) for third place and fourth place 6-3,6-1.  Whitney Kay (Alpharetta, GA) defeated Katie Goepel (Chatham, NJ) for fifth and sixth place 6-4, 6-4.  In the Consolation final, Abby Stainback (Dallas, TX) defeated Jasmine Minor (Mundelein, IL) 6-1,6-2.  The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Taylor Vick of Bellaire, TX.

Invitations were sent to the top 14 and under players from each section of the USTA.  This singles-only event is sanctioned by the USTA and is on the National Junior Tennis schedule.

This event is one of the many events the MCB Tennis Foundation organizes to promote junior tennis development.  Maureen Connolly was the first woman to win the Grand Slam at 18 years of age in 1953.    She is still the youngest and only American woman to win the Grand Slam.
