2006 USTA Florida Jr. State Closed Championship:
Test of the Best

Daytona Beach/Altamonte Springs, FL—The Florida Tennis Center Daytona Beach and the Sanlando Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs were jam-packed with the most talented, competitive junior tennis players in Florida June 10-15 for the 2006 USTA Florida Jr. State Closed Championship.

The 10s and 12s divisions battled at Sanlando while the 14s, 16s and 18s competed in Daytona Beach.  The tournament staff, including Bobby Curtis, Andy Gladstone, Ann Brown and Amy Linn, were forced to deal with afternoon storms on three days of the tournament.

“The rain definitely impacted the tournament.  The kids had to double-up, and we had to change and adjust some things,” junior tennis guru Bobby Curtis said.  “But we got it done.”

Two event nights were held during the tournament.  June 11, Sport Psychology Consultant Dr. Garth Weiss presented “Think Better Win More” in Altamonte Springs and Bill Ozaki, Ken Ouellette, Ed Krass and Dede Allen held a college tennis roundtable discussion at the Florida Tennis Center Daytona Beach.

All 16s and 18s finalists received $1,250 travel reimbursement to be used at the next National Clay-Courts or National Hard-Courts Championship.
