Delray Beach, FL (April 13, 2007) — Not even Miss Cleo could have foreseen in her cloudy crystal ball, that the Girls' 12s finals would provide us with a better match up in the Sea Island Resorts USTA Boys’ & Girls’ 12 Spring National Championships hosted by the City of Delray Beach (April 8-14, 2007). The #1 and #2 seeds in the tournament, as well as the #1 and #3 girls in the country, Sachia Vickery (1) (Miramar, FL) and Jerricka Boone (2) (Chicago, IL) will compete in the final match for the pristine "Gold Ball" at 9:15 AM Saturday April 14, 2007. This is the first time in competitive junior tennis that the top boys and girls in the country can feast their eyes on the prized award that has been given to Andy, James, Serena, and Lindsey, and not to mention, our tournament chairman and one of "Florida's Best Ever Juniors," Ivan S. Baron.

For Vickery the Gold Ball has more of an ornamental value than just a cool trophy-shelf-filler. "I've never won a Gold Ball, plus, I don't even own anything that is gold," wailed Vickery. A fellow tournament player overheard her cry and retorted, "You don't own anything gold? What about your earrings?" "These? I got these from the Dollar Store," scoffed Vickery.

According to the economical shopper, Vickery has played her next opponent, Jerricka Boone (2), "at least 11 times" and has an "8-3 record against her." Will tomorrow make it an even 9? or will Boone force Vickery to settle for less-than extravagant accessories for one more national tournament? Whatever the outcome tomorrow, it is Sachia's lavish 6-0, 6-1 win today over the draw's # 4 seed, and our Day 1 "Delray Beach Girls' Player of the Day"—Breaunna Addison (TX) —which earns her a prize nearly tantamount to the Gold Ball, as our Day 6 "Delray Beach Girls' Player of the Day." Wear that lustrous gem proudly, Sachia!

Nick Wood (2) (Knoxville, TN) chopped down Jared Hiltzik (6) (Wilmette, IL) — 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals of the Boys' 12 draw, and will play in the finals tomorrow morning against Day 2 "Delray Beach Boys Player of the Day"—and the tournament's #3 seeded player—Roy Lederman, (3) (Miami, FL) for the ever-so macho Gold Ball. And it is for Nick Wood's solid win to the finals, that we'd be barren of joy, if we failed to acknowledge him as the "Delray Beach Boys' Player of the Day." Watch out, Roy, because Wood is hacking for the golden title—Timberrrrr!
