Florida Junior Doubles Team Take First at 2007 Easter Bowl

May 3, 2007 01:44 PM

Congratulations to Alexandra Cercone of Seminole and Jacqueline Kasler of Gulf Breeze who teamed together to win the girls 16-and-under doubles title in the prestigious 2007 Easter Bowl Junior Championships April 15-22 in Rancho Mirage, CA.  The longtime friends and hitting partners defeated Jessica Alexander of Dallas and Brooke Bolender (5) of Delray Beach 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to claim the Girls’ 16s Doubles Championship.  This is the first time the girls have snagged a Gold Ball after having three to four second and third place wins in the past.  This also moves the star doubles team very close to claiming the No. 1 national doubles ranking spot; they are currently No. 2!

Alexandra, 15, injured her wrist before the tournament began and had to hit a one hand slice the entire tournament, rather than smack her regular two handed backhand.  Talk about adapting to change!  In singles, Jacqueline, 15, advanced to the round of 32 before losing a tough match to Cierra J. Gaytan-Leach (17) from California 7-5, 6-1.  Alexandra advanced a step further to the round of 16 before falling to Beatrice Capra from Maryland 6-4, 6-4.

Great job, ladies, on an outstanding doubles win at the 2007 Easter Bowl Junior Championships!
