Florida Players Win USTA Winter Super Nationals

Congratulations to Sekou Coker Bangoura of Sarasota, Alexandra Cercone of Seminole and Victoria Duval of Delray Beach for wining titles at the USTA Winter Super Nationals, December 27, 2007 - January 1, 2008 in Scottsdale & Tucson (BG 12s&14s), Ariz!

No. 23 seed Alexandra paved her way to the championship title in the Girls’ 18s by beating five of the top 20 seeds, including No.15, 7, 5, 2 and eventually, No. 1 seed Keri Wong of Jackson, Miss. in the finals.  Cercone also took home a second place silver ball with doubles partner, Jacqueline Kasler, in the Girls’ 18s doubles championship; this marked the girls’ third ball in 2007 – 2 gold and 1 silver!  

Top seeded Sekou swept seven singles matches in the 128-player draw without losing a set in the Boys’ 16s final, and then teamed with Nelson Vick of Grafton, Wis., for a 6-4, 6-1 doubles victory against Kurthan Anbarci and Christopher Jackman of Miami. 

No. 2 seed Victoria won her first gold ball in singles over third-seeded Ayaka Okuno of Santa Clara, Calif. 6-3; 6-3 at the Randolph Tennis Center in Tucson.

Congratulations also to Baker Newman of Miami who received the 2007 SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD for the Boys’ 12s division!
