LOCAL TEEN STANDOUT WINS WILDCARD INTO ACE SPORTS GROUP $25,000 CHALLENGER

Cheval CC to Host USTA Pro Circuit Event, January 19-25

St. Pete teenager Danielle Collins won the Ace Sports Group Wildcard Tournament with a stunning 4-hour victory over Chi Chi Scholl. The marathon final came down to a pressure-filled tiebreak with Collins prevailing 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (3). The $25,000 USTA Pro Women’s Circuit Challenger event will kick off on January 18th at Cheval County Club in Lutz.

Collins, who just turned 15 in December, is currently ranked #4 in Florida and #17 in the United States in the Girls 18’s. The lifelong St. Pete resident was ranked #1 in the U.S. in 2006 in the Girls 12’s.

This will be the first of likely many professional events for the excited Collins. “This is going to be a great experience for me…win or lose. I’m really psyched up for this and I’m going to have fun. I don’t really know what to expect, but I am going to go for it.”

The runner-up Scholl will be given a wildcard into the qualifying draw of 64 for 8 qualifying spots. The Wildcard Tournament doubles winners were sisters Nikki and Tori Cleaves of Sarasota. The sister duo will now get a chance to play in the doubles qualifying event in the hopes of making the main draw of 16.
