Elite U.S. Junior Tennis on Display at Legendary Delray Beach Tennis Center

The 2009 Boys' & Girls' 12's USTA Spring National Championships has brought together 256 junior tennis players to the Delray Beach Tennis Center in quest for a coveted Gold Ball, the pinnacle of achievement in U.S. junior tennis.  An incredible 29 girls and 21 boys are representing the “home turf” USTA Florida Section, looking to keep the Gold Ball local and using home court to their advantage.

In the girls’ field, this year’s top seed is Boca Raton’s own Julia O’Loughlin.  A 3rd round loss in Delray Beach sent O’Loughlin home in 2008; however that is a feat we assure will be hard to repeat since she is currently No. 4 nationally in the USTA rankings. Other area players competing include Sofia Kenin (Pembroke Pines), Kellyn Abbanat (Parkland), Remi Ramos (Parkland), Tai Martin (Weston), Johnisse Renaud (North Miami), Kinga Gartner (Pompano Beach), Cristina Rovira (Doral), Danielle Obolevitch (Sunny Isles Beach), Bennett Dunn (Plantation), Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Ft. Lauderdale), Mia Horvit (Parkland), Leah Bush (Weston), Sarah Vargas (Pembroke Pines) and Chiara Goodman (Weston).

In the boy’s draw, competition will be tough as half of the top-20 players in the country and half of the nation’s top-10 will be on the courts. From New York’s Artemie Amari and Rhode Island’s Jared Donaldson to Arizona’s Gregory Anderson and Washington state’s Henrik Wiersholm, these seeds will have to overcome local players Michael and Scott Plutt (Weston), Paul An’drey Pierre-Louis (Miami), Chase Colton (Davie), Sami Kierberg (Ft. Lauderdale), Ezequiel Cerrini (Sunny Isles Beach), Jimmy Bendeck (Coral Springs), Robby Morin (Boca RatonL), Felix Corwin (Boca Raton), Constantin Supper (Boynton Beach), Christian Langmo (Boca Raton) and David Omsky (Aventura).

Good luck to all and stay tuned for daily results!
