November 7, 2005 08:43 AM

COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Florida's Diana Srebrovic captured the singles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships at the Racquet Club of Columbus Nov. 3-6.  This event is the second of three national championships played during the 2005-06 collegiate tennis season.

In the singles finals Florida's Srebrovic beat Stanford's Theresa Logar 7-5, 6-4.  Srebrovic is the first Gator since Lisa Raymond in 1992 to win the ITA National Indoor title.

Srebrovic, a sophomore from Ontario, Canada, did not lose a set in five victories this week and is Florida's fourth champion at this event. A transfer from Virginia, she had been ranked as high as No. 270 in the WTA Rankings prior to entering college. In today's final the unseeded Srebrovic fell behind 5-3 in the first set against eight-seeded Logar, but took control after that, winning 10 of the next 14 games.

"It's an honor to be in Lisa Raymond's company," Srebrovic said. "She's a legend at the University of Florida and has had amazing success on the pro tour. To follow in her footsteps is amazing."

The 2005-06 collegiate tennis season's first of three national championship events were the ITA All-American Championships in October, followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November. The NCAA Championships in May are the third (and not administered by the ITA).

As the governing body of collegiate tennis the ITA promotes both the athletic and academic achievements of the collegiate tennis community. The ITA, which was founded in 1956 and is based in Skillman, N.J., administers numerous regional and national championships, the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, and the ITA Rankings for men's and women's tennis at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College levels. The ITA also has a comprehensive awards program for players and coaches to honor excellence in academics, leadership and sportsmanship. The official ITA website is www.itatennis.com.
