Courier and InsideOut Sports and Entertainment also announced that former U.S. Davis Cup star Aaron Krickstein and 1986 French Open finalist Mikael Pernfors will also join the field of champions that includes Courier, fellow former world No. 1s John McEnroe and Mats Wilander and 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash. The final two positions in the eight-player field will be announced at a future date.

Naples will be the inaugural event on the 2006 Champions Cup Series, a collection of tennis events in the United States featuring the greatest names in tennis over the age of 30. The Champions Cup Series marks the first cohesive series of events for champion tennis players in the U.S. since 2001. Champions Cup Series events will also be staged in Boston (April 27-30), Memphis (Oct. 5-8) and Houston (November 9-12). In order to be eligible to compete on the Champions Cup Series, players must have reached at least a Grand Slam singles final, been ranked in the top five in the world or played singles on a winning Davis Cup team.

“Naples is one of the best tennis towns in the country with a very loyal and sophisticated tennis audience and great venue to kick off the 2006 Champions Cup Series,” said Courier. “We are excited to present a Monday night final in Naples to continue to uniquely showcase the talent and competitiveness of the Champions Cup Series.”

All Champions Cup Series events will feature eight-man round-robin match formats with the winners of the two four-player divisions meet in the championship match while second place finishers in each division meet in a third place match.
