January 24, 2006 09:30 AM

InsideOut Sports and Entertainment announced that Petr Korda has joined the field of tennis greats at the Champions Cup Series – Naples, March 10-13 at the Players Club and Spa at Lely Resort in Naples, FL.

Korda, the 1998 Australian Open champion, will join the eight-player field of champions that includes John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Pat Cash, Aaron Krickstein, Mikael Pernfors and Jim Courier.

Korda, from the Czech Republic, is best known for his triumph at the 1998 Australian Open, where the left-hander defeated Marcelo Rios in the men’s singles final. Ranked a career high No. 2 in the world, Korda was also a singles finalist at the 1992 French Open, where he was defeated by Courier. During his career, Korda won 10 singles titles and 10 doubles titles, including the 1996 Australian Open with Stefan Edberg.

“Petr is one of the best shot makers I’ve ever played against in my career and he will definitely be a threat to win the title in Naples,” said Courier, a founding partner of InsideOut. “We will have to see if Petr will display his well-known scissor-kick celebration in Naples, but I hope I don’t see it first hand because that will mean that he is beating me.”

Naples will be the inaugural event on the 2006 Champions Cup Series, a collection of tennis events in the United States featuring the greatest names in tennis over the age of 30. Champions Cup Series events will also be staged in Boston (April 27-30), Memphis (Oct 5-8) and Houston (Nov. 9-12). In order to be eligible to compete on the Champions Cup Series, players must have reached at least a Grand Slam singles final, been ranked in the top five in the world or played singles on a winning Davis Cup team.

Individual and series tickets for the Champions Cup Series – Naples can be purchased by calling (239) 649-7171 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

All Champions Cup Series events will feature eight-man round-robin match formats with the winner of each four-player division meeting in the championship match while second place finishers in each division meet in a third-place match.
