The French Open is all the rage on television these past two weeks but there is plenty of great tennis being played right in our own backyard at Lake Cane Tennis Center.  Evidence of this is the Full Moon in June Jam 2006 Tournament.

The Men’s Open Singles division final on June 5 lacked nothing in the way of skill and excitement!  Even the consolation semi-final had moments like Sharipova’s match against Safina at the French Open.

After splitting sets and being ahead 5-1 in the third set, 33-year-old Elliot Mitchell had his young opponent Yuri Pompeu,19, come back and defeat him 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.  After the match, the players excitedly discussed crucial points, gracious and complimentary of their opponent’s skill level.  It was an example of good sportsmanship anyone would want his/her child to witness.

Erik Turnquist came out strong against top seed Mike Birzon in a close first match.  It was all Birzon in the end with a 6-4, 6-2 win; Birzon received a cash prize for his triumph and all finalists received awards.
