USTA Florida president and son win consolation at national tournament

August 22, 2006 01:45 PM
Current USTA Florida President Don Cleveland and his son Casey prevailed as consolation winners at the USTA National Father Son Clay Court Championships in Cincinnati July 28-30.

Winning tournaments is nothing new to the Cleveland pair – they have won the Florida state father/son tournament six out of the seven times they competed.

The duo has also competed nationally seven times and they have won the consolation twice.  The highest they have ever finished in national clay courts is 5th place.

"Two or three years ago, we won the sportsmanship award at the national father/son," Don said.  "That was a great honor for us.

"We played well this year," he said.  "We won five of our matches."

Don said his son is the easiest person in the world to play with.

"Doing anything with your family is enjoyable," he said.  "Playing with Casey is terrific.  He is so positive – I cannot help but have a great time when I combine tennis and my family."
