Celebrating 29 years of presenting world-class tennis, the Bausch & Lomb Championships returns to the oceanfront resort of Amelia Island Plantation, April 7 – 13,2008. The legendary tournament annually features the most talented names in women’s professionaltennis as well as showcasing the rising stars on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

The 2007 Bausch & Lomb Championships added to its tradition by celebrating Tatiana Golovin’s debut appearance where she crushed defending champion Nadia Petrova in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) to win her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title. Among the many international players, the 2007 Bausch & Lomb Championships featured Serbian stars Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic. Since her Amelia Island quarterfinal finish, Jankovic has stormed the Tour scene by winning three singles titles (Charleston, Rome, Birmingham), placed as a finalist at two events and a semifinalist at four additional tournaments.  As the tournament’s second debut star, Ana Ivanovic gave fans the opportunity to witness her strength and versatile talent as she reached the semifinals before losing to champion, Tatiana Golovin. Since the 2007 Bausch & Lomb Championships, Ivanovic has won two singles titles along with her first Grand Slam finals appearance at the French Open and her first semifinal Grand Slam finish at Wimbledon.

Another 2007 Bausch & Lomb Championships stand-out, Venus Williams went on to win her sixth Grand Slam title this summer at Wimbledon. Williams was the 2002 Bausch & Lomb Championships winner and a quarterfinalist in 2007.
