Entertaining Twins To Top The Delray Beach ITC Ticket

September 22, 2008 09:49 AM

Delray Beach, FL (September 20, 2008)  - Followingtheirchampionshiprunatthe 2008 US Open, Bob and Mike Bryan, the world’s most celebrated doubles team of the decade, have confirmed that they will return to the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in 2009 to play in the 17th annual event. The current world No. 1 team will make their second straight Delray Beach ITC appearance at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center February 21 - March 1, 2009.

Entertaining and energizing Delray Beach ITC crowds with their upbeat brand of tennis earlier  this  year,  the  Bryans  also  charmed  fans  with  off-court  appearances  that  included jamming with local bands while playing keyboards and drums.  The twins' popularity translated into the biggest crowd to watch a Delray Beach ITC doubles match in tournament history as they fell just short to 2008 champions Jamie Murray and Max Mirnyi.

“The in-your-face style of tennis that Bob & Mike bring to the court is so aggressive and fun to watch,” says Delray Beach ITC tournament director Mark Baron. “Sometimes it’s easy to overlook their greatness, and that they are on track to become the top doubles players in the history of our sport. We are thrilled for our fans and the City to have them back in Delray Beach in 2009.”

Touted by People Magazine in its “Doubly Delicious” section of its (2006) “Sexiest Man Alive” issue, the charismatic doubles duo is on the brink of historic feats in tennis. An expected No. 1 finish in the 2008 world rankings will mark the fifth time in 6 years that they have been the top doubles team - something  no other team in tennis history has accomplished.  The Bryan’s 49 ATP titles and 6 Grand Slam championships both rank No. 4 in the Open era, with the all-time mark of 61 titles within their reach.  The brothers have been stalwarts on the US Davis Cup team since 2004, and were 4-0 for the United States’ world championship squad in 2007.

The 2009 Delray Beach ITC will enjoy a new date on the ATP calendar, immediately following tournaments in San Jose and Memphis and preceding tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.  As  the  lynchpin between these four events, the tournament is looking to surpass its best-ever attendance, including its record-setting championship weekend crowds last year when world-ranked Top-10 James Blake and the Bryans played to a full stadium.
