October 19, 2005 12:36 PM

USTA Florida hosted the 2005 USTA League Tennis Mixed Senior and Mixed Adult Sectionals Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 15-17 at the Florida Tennis Center Daytona Beach.  Between the two events, nearly 1,000 talented players comprising 80 teams participated!

All winning teams qualify to compete nationally at the 2005 USA League Tennis National Eastern Regional Mixed Championships to be played Nov. 18-20 in Pensacola.

To be eligible for these events, teams qualified in their respective local leagues throughout the state.  Tournament directors were Chuck Collier of Mulberry and Carl Weathington of Tallahassee.  All matches were decided by short scoring, using a match tie-break in lieu of a third set.  (First to 10 points, win by two)

Established in 1980, USA League Tennis has grown nationally from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year, to more than 570,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.

In USA League Tennis, players are grouped into six different ability levels, ranging from beginner (2.5) to advanced (5.0), based on the National Tennis Rating Program.  Play consists of singles and doubles matches with the outcome based on team scoring.
