Winter Springs, FL – More than 40 current and former captains of USTA League Tennis teams in Orange and Seminole counties came together for a special one-day tournament in November to celebrate the 25th anniversary of USTA League Tennis.

The Central Florida tournament – which featured both men and women adult and senior league captains from the past three years, participating in a round-robin format – was played at Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs.

“We couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to celebrate this significant milestone than with a tournament comprised of those captains who have been instrumental in the growth and popularity of the USTA League Tennis concept in this area,” said Jenny Jolinski, Region 4 Director and Local League Coordinator for USTA Florida which provided a grant for the event.

Jolinski credits the success of the event to the tournament committee which devoted more than three months of planning. Members include: Suzanne Wolling, Janette Clear and Diana Givens.

More than 125 former league captains were invited to the celebration.  Participants vied for prizes that included two $50 gift certificates from E-Tennis, a Wilson tennis racquet of choice and a weekend getaway to Hilton St. Petersburg Beach.  Players rotated partners throughout the four-round event and received raffle tickets for each game won during the afternoon, which they then placed in a drawing for the prizes.  Each participant was presented with a special anniversary memento.

Individual tournament winners: 3.0 Women – Laurie Kurtz; 3.5 Women – Janette Clear; 4.0 Women – Charlie Landers; and Men – Bruce Broulik.

Raffle winners: Laurie Kurtz, the Hilton St. Petersburg Beach weekend getaway; Suzanne Wolling, e-Tennis certificate; Janette Clear, Wilson tennis racquet.
