6.0/8.0 USTA Super Senior National Championships

April 24, 2007 04:30 PM

USTA League Tennis presented by Chrysler

On Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, 550 of the best 60 and over tennis players from around the country will travel from the great “Golden Gate” state to the “Big Apple” to vie for the title of 2006 6.0/8.0 USTA League National Champions. This is the first time the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Florida section has hosted the USTA Super Senior National Championships which includes 61 men’s and women’s teams with representation from all 17 sections of the USTA. Don’t be deceived by age because just as fine wine gets better with age, so is true of these super senior tennis players.

Anticipation is at an all-time high as participating teams from each section qualified last year for this National competition. Why wait until this year to play an event from last year?  Sandy Marshall, USTA Florida League Coordinator, explains that tennis is on the rise which levitates a busier schedule for league players.

“Due to the rapid growth of the USTA league programs,” she said, “this Super Senior National Championship must be played in the following calendar year, even though it is a 2006 event.”

The good thing is that the wait is finally over.

“We are extremely excited to have the best players from all over the U.S. representing their USTA sections in the Sunshine State,” said Jacqui Brunton, USTA Florida Director of Leagues. “This is a first for the Florida section, and we expect the players to enjoy Daytona Beach and playing at the beautiful Florida Tennis Center.”

Local restaurants, hotels and businesses have opened their doors for arriving players. Cancun Lagoon and Inlet Harbor have donated drink and food coupons for participating teams to use during their stay.  Courtyard Marriot is the official hotel sponsor of the event and Enterprise has issued special discounted rates for their rent-a-cars.

Don't miss this rare, exciting and FREE opportunity to see these tennis connoisseurs who have taken the USTA road to the National Championships. Daily matches at the beautiful 24 court tennis facility will begin at 8:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday, with the finals starting at 11:00 a.m. Sunday.

To our friends in the media, we would enjoy having you whether it be covering the event or just enjoying the fun and enthusiasm that surrounds these active adults. Call Tori Townsend, 386-671-8943 to make necessary arrangements to attend.
